What is SEACOM?
SEACOM, or the Special Education Advisory Council Of Marblehead is a self-governed, solution-oriented parent advisory council. We act as a resource and advisor to parents and educators of children with disabilities in the Marblehead PreK – 12 schools. SEACOM also works collaboratively with school and district officials to improve special education in Marblehead.
The Massachusetts Special Education Regulations require that each Massachusetts school district establish a volunteer parent advisory council (like SEACOM). The parent advisory council duties include but are not limited to: advising the district on matters that pertain to the education and safety of students with disabilities; meeting regularly with school officials to participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of the school district’s special education programs.
A detailed description of the Special Educations regulations can be found at: www.doe.mass.edu/sped
We are at the beginning stages of reestablishing a strong membership of parents of children with a wide range of disabilities. Membership is open to all individuals interested in special education in Marblehead.
